Navigating Disney with Ease: Our Experience with the Disability Assistance Service (DAS)

When my family embarked on our much-anticipated trip to Disney World, we were faced with a unique challenge: my dad had recently lost his leg and was still in the process of healing. As excited as we were for the magical adventure ahead, we knew that navigating the parks might present some obstacles. Little did we know, Disney had a solution that would turn our worries into wonderment: the Disability Assistance Service (DAS) pass.

Designed for guests who find it difficult to tolerate long waits in queues due to a disability, the DAS pass proved to be a game-changer for us. Rather than waiting in the conventional standby lines, the pass allowed us to request a return time for a specific attraction, comparable to the current standby wait. This meant that while we waited for our designated time, we could explore other attractions or simply enjoy the ambiance of the park.

One of the aspects we appreciated most about the DAS pass was its flexibility. Whether it was registering in person or via live video call, Disney's commitment to inclusivity shone through. Moreover, the convenience of the DAS pass didn't end at registration. With its validity extending up to 60 days, we had the freedom to enjoy our Disney experience without the added stress of constantly reapplying for accommodations. Plus, the recent enhancements to the DAS program, such as pre-registering via live video call and accessing return times through the My Disney Experience app, could have further streamlined our journey through the parks.

It's worth noting that while the DAS pass proved invaluable for us, guests who utilize wheelchairs or scooters may not require it. We were able to access it because my dad’s need to be able to move his leg for the healing process, but with one leg and wait times all that would have been near impossible. So we were able to utilize the DAS pass. If you only have a mobility issue, depending on the attraction, these guests may either wait in the standard queue or receive a comparable return time.

Our Disney adventure wouldn't have been the same without the support of the Disability Assistance Service pass. Thanks to Disney's commitment to accessibility and inclusion, we were able to focus on creating unforgettable memories together, knowing that every step of the way, Disney had our backs – or in this case, our wheels.
